Established in the spring of 1986, the Gold Mine has been the Straits of Mackinac area's 'go-to' store when looking for fine quality jewelry at reasonable prices. Yvonne Della-Moretta, a Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), is the store's creator, designer and driving force. She and her husband Tom have become well-known for going the 'extra mile' for folks looking for unique jewelry not found everywhere.
Featuring the famous Mackinac Bridge designs by Evon and hand-made Michigan stone jewelry, the Gold Mine also carries VEER's Fairytale Bridal designs, a nationally marketed designer bridal line of which Yvonne is the original designer.
With in-house jewelry repair, art glass, and Northern Michigan's largest selection of genuine Polish Pottery, make the Gold Mine your first thought for all your jewelry needs, as so many have for over 30 years.
the owners
Yvonne Della-Moretta was raised on Mackinac Island and now lives in St. Ignace, Michigan. She is a self-taught artist and enjoys all varieties of artwork, from painting in palette knife, acrylic to water colors and oils. She also enjoys wood burning, carving, and her first love, jewelry making.
Her original designs can be found at the Gold Mine Jewelry store in St. Ignace, as well as other gift and gallery locations. She is the primary bench jeweler at the Gold Mine and is a trained Graduate Gemologist from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
Tom Della-Moretta has been in sales since he was 14 years old (and we won't tell you what year that was) and full-time at the Gold Mine since 1993. His 40+ years of experience in customer service and sales have developed him into an empathetic, yet sharp business owner. His love for people matches his commitment to the Straits of Mackinac area.
Tom leads the sales staff at the Gold Mine with joy and a touch of humor.
